Buongiorno,
in Wikidata in maniera automatica/semiautomatica?
Cosa potremmo usare (oltre Open Refine)?
Grazie in anticipo per le risposte,
Alessandra

In the past there we similar trial to connect
https://www.archivesportaleurope.net/ which collects in a structure way
using the archive standard EAD with the object ts presented in EUROPEANA.
So far for different reasons (finding funding and engagement from the
community) it did not happen, but we still hope it will in future.
If there is a portal for out of Commerce Works with metadata/data only, a
way to interlink those efficiently with the content if available on
EUROPEANA but also other existing portals will be critical ?
All the best

Hi both,
Thanks for getting back to me.
My first thought when this portal was being discussed in the draft text of
the Directive was also that Europeana would be a perfect place for that.
Perhaps it was a policy decision from the Commission not to have made it
this way... in any case now the final text of the Directive mandates that
the EUIPO has to create that portal and we should get the best we can out
of it.
At the same time, the function of that portal will be very different to
that of Europeana. The main objective of this portal is to publicise
information (not necessarily the digital object) about the work before it
can be used under the out of commerce works scheme. So publishing there is
almost just a formality that we need to go through to benefit from the
system. The portal does not intend to aggregate or give visibility to
content for it to be re-used. It's almost like a window of information.
I don't mean to say that it's an ideal situation, and it could definitely
be easier, but since the process of providing information through this
portal is still needed to benefit from the out of commerce works scheme,
it's important in my opinion that we ensure that this process is not
burdensome but rather useful if possible.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Ariadna

I really fail to see why a portal specifically for out of commerce would be
needed to build up, when we have EUROPEANA, Archive Portal Europe and
success stories like Biodiversity Heritage Library :
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/
Why not concentrate on mobilizing content, convince providers, interlinking
those successful portals rather then to build yet another one to try to
link to the others ?
I fail to see the rationale behind it for the "out of commerce works" topic
.., I really fear a dispersion of the means, efforts and experts here,
rather to focalize on improving and supporting what is there ?

Do we really imagine that people will record in that portal family
photographs, unpublished works,
etc.
And even if they will do, how will be those identified ? The portal will be
a "shadow Europeana" ?
If yes, maybe Europeana would be a better place even for the
"out-of-commerce" works ? Why another
one ?

https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progetto:GLAM/Biblioteca_Comunale_di_Trento/L…
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Portraits_from_Biblioteca_comun…
letterati/e, teologi, scienziati. Le immagini sono state digitalizzate,
post-prodotte, descritte (segnalandone dimensione, tecnica utilizzata,
autore, personaggio ritratto) e infine caricate su Wikimedia Commons e
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progetto:GLAM/Biblioteca_Comunale_di_Trento/%…

Hello everyone,
Our next biweekly LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group call is Tuesday, November
19th at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 17:00 UTC / 6pm CET. We’ll be recapping
WikidataCon and WikiConference North America.
The call details are below. To receive notifications about upcoming calls
and meeting notes you can subscribe to the ld4-wikidata Google Group
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ld4-wikidata>, and if you aren't
able to attend, the meetings are recorded and meeting notes available on Google
Drive
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JwTulCABs0TkGQDVSnYbIYEb7bC-j4-n>.
If you haven't joined one of our calls before, the LD4-Wikidata Affinity
Group is associated with the Linked Data for Production project
<https://wiki.duraspace.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=104568167>. One of
the goals of the project is understanding how libraries can contribute to
and better integrate library metadata with Wikidata to improve access to
library resources on the web. Wikidata offers exciting possibilities for
libraries to become a part of the linked data landscape, share and reuse
data, and discover new relationships and connections. The Affinity Group
calls provide an informal space to share information and learn more about
Wikidata.

Subject: [Wikidata] Data donation from ISSN Internation Center - feedback
welcome
To: Discussion list for the Wikidata project <wikidata(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello
The ISSN International Center, which maintains the ISSN Register (*the most
complete reference source for the identification of serial publications*)
at http://portal.issn.org wishes to *contribute a subset of its
bibliographic database to Wikidata*.
This consists of (approximately) *1.100.000 serial publications notices*
(only current/not discontinued publications), with 10% having 2 or more
ISSNs (typically, paper and electronic version). Currently, Wikidata
contains approximately 94000 ISSN values.
Each serial notice is described with metadata from the set of metadata
already freely available from the ISSN Portal :
- ISSN identifier
- ISSN-L identifier (the ISSN-L identifies the serial publication
independantly of its medium, while distinct ISSNs are assigned to each
medium)
- Proper (original) title of the serial
- Key (unambiguous) title of the serial
- Country of publication
- Distribution format (of a given ISSN)
- URL (for online publications)
- Language of the serial
*(Note that the publisher is not part of the free data).*
More information can be read in this presentation.
<https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1vJrfj3zOKTw-29QYp2RyBxkJUlHVk_VKWzn…>
Preliminary analysis has been conducted and a data model proposal to
capture this set of metadata has been submitted at
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Periodicals#Data_do…
(Wikidata Periodicals and Wiki Source Projects have been notified)
Feedback on this is welcome until 4th of december (although not a formal
deadline), either here or on wiki at the link above.
We also welcome general advice on how to proceed with an ingest of this
size (the plan is currently to use OpenRefine to reconcile and import).
Best Regards
Thomas
