Subject: [wikicite-discuss] Proof of concept for French national
entities platform using WikiBase : call for tender
To: <wikicite-discuss(a)wikimedia.org>
Dear all,
ABES (Bibliographic Agency for Higher Education) and BnF (Bibliothèque
nationale de France) in France are jointly involved in an initiative
to build a central national platform for the description of
“entities”, including persons, corporate bodies, works, concepts,
places…
The challenge is to create and maintain centrally and cooperatively
information about entities documented in the collections held by
libraries and other cultural heritage and research institutions in
France. Key objectives also include, but are not limited to : better
integrate into the Web of data the reference datasets created by such
institutions and facilitate the use of data by any interested
community; share efforts and increase possibilities to collectively
improve data quality; develop a shared data strategy.
In the previous stage, ABES and BnF carried out a feasibility study,
including investigation of different solutions to support the overall
infrastructure of the platform. The study led to the conclusion that
it would be advisable at this stage to carry out a Proof of Concept in
order to investigate the possibility of using the software
infrastructure of WikiBase to support the FNE. The rationale is based
on the observation that a good portion of the principles and
functional characteristics of WikiBase and its related tools are
likely to respond to the functional requirements that both partners
have formulated for FNE. This hypothesis remains to be proved by the
Proof of Concept this tender is about, and ABES and BnF are looking
for a contractor that will help them test it.The call for tender is
open until April 26th. All the documents are available here
https://www.marches-publics.gouv.fr/app.php/consultation/422595. While
the responses to the call for tender can be written in English,
provided a French version is also supplied alongside, While the
responses to the call for tender can be written in English, provided a
French version is also provided alongside, mastering French language
is not a prerequisite.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Ben

Subject: [Wikidata] New dashboard: external IDs and their usage on Wikidata

Hello all,
As you might know, there are plenty of tools <https://grafana.wikimedia.org/d/000000154/wikidata?orgId=1> analyzing Wikidata’s content and its usage across the Wikimedia projects.
The new dashboard we would like to present you today, the *Wikidata Identifier Landscape <https://wmdeanalytics.wmflabs.org/WD_ExternalIdentifiersDashboard/>*, is focusing on the external identifiers and their usage on Wikidata. Its different views allow to answer questions like: how much do our external identifiers overlap with each other? With how many statements are they currently described? Which identifiers represent certain topic areas? On what type of items are they usually used? How can we map the galaxy of our external identifiers?

On the dashboard, you can browse through different tabs:
* the Similarity Map presents a global overview of the overlap in the usage of Wikidata identifiers
* the Overlap Network visualizes all Wikidata external identifiers in a network of nearest neighbors
* the Tables section allows you to check directly the number of items using a certain external identifier, and the number of items using two external identifiers of your choice
* the Identifier Classes tab maps the relationships between the external identifiers belonging to the same class (eg chemistry, cultural heritage, feminism…)
* the Particular Identifier tab provides for each identifier a map of its neighbors and some examples of items where this identifier is used
On every tab, the descriptions gives you more information about the calculation method and the result. You can also check the documentation page <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata_Identifier_Landscape>.

If you have any question, if you find a bug of if you have a request for future development, feel free to ping me or to comment on this Phabricator task <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T204440>.
And of course, feel free to share the dashboard with people or projects that could be interested in playing with identifiers :)
Cheers,

Mi ricordo che alcuni anni fa qualche smanettone aveva ricopiato tutti i
dati delle biblioteche presenti nell'archivio Anagrafe delle Biblioteche
italiane <https://anagrafe.iccu.sbn.it/it/>; per caso questi dati sono poi
finiti in Wikidata?
